How to add or remove a Birthstone Journal or Generational Ring

Classic - Generations Necklace - (Classic Design - Purchased after July 2015)

1.  You must first unfasten the chain and slide it off the pendant.
2.  Gently slide the largest ring up the channel of the pendant and off, through the narrow opening in the back. Sometimes you may have to turn the ring a bit to get it to slide through the opening. Any additional rings are removed the same way.
3.  Once the desired ring is removed, you can easily add a birthstone, by aligning the opening in the back of the Journal with the narrow section of the ring, then push it on the ring. Sometimes you may have to turn the birthstone setting a bit to get it in the correct position to be added. When the Journal is at the narrow section of the ring, you can rotate it so that it's facing forward, then slide it to the thicker portion of the ring. Removing or changing the position of a Journal is achieved in much the same way as adding a Journal or ring.

How should I care for my Generations Necklace?

General Care:

We recommend that you remove your necklace before going to bed or participating in physical activity. Exposure to certain harsh chemicals or environments will result in compromising the integrity of your necklace. This includes, but is not limited to the following: perspiration, perfumes, cleaning agents, chlorine, salt water, silver polishing liquids, silver dips, ultrasonic cleaning and a tumbler should be avoided.

How should I polish my necklace:

Maintain the beautiful shine and unique finish by polishing your Generations Necklace with a silver-polishing cloth. This should make your necklace shine if it has become dull, however, it will not remove scratches. You can also dampen a clean soft cloth in lukewarm water, adding a small amount of mild soap, and rub gently on the finish. Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth. If your necklace is particularly dirty, soak for 5 to 10 minutes. It is always wise to remove your necklace prior to sun bathing or swimming.

*Please note: That the natural patina (darkening in crevices) may intensify over time, due to natural oxidation, which only adds to your necklaces beautiful vintage appeal.

How should I store my Generations Necklace

Your Generations Necklace should be stored away from natural sunlight and heat, in a protective (lined) jewelry box or a tarnish-resistant pouch. It can also be stored in a plastic zip lock bag made of Mylar or polyethylene. Never use polyvinyl plastic bags, such as bin liners as they contain sulfur compounds, which will make sterling silver tarnish faster. Because of heat and humidity, do not store your necklace in the bathroom.

     Birthstone Exchange

Throughout history, alternative birthstones have been added to several calendar month's. At Generations of Love, we have selected the birthstone color most commonly associated with each month. If you would like to use another gemstone to replace the one that you received, we will be happy to do whatever we can to accommodate your special request. Just tell us what you would like, and we'll make it happen at no additional charge.
